Andrew, Carey, & Keira Interview from “Never Let Me Go” London Premiere

Andrew, Jesse, & Justin on La Boite

Young Spider-Man?

As “Spider-Man” moves forward to begin shooting in December, pieces are slowly being put in place.Emma Stone and Rhys Ifansrecently came on board playing Gwen Stacy and The Lizard respectively. They join Andrew Garfield in a reboot of Sony’s lucrative franchise. But word has arrived of a couple more intriguing parts to be filled.

Moviehole reports that casting is out for young versions of Peter Parker and his nemesis in the film, The Lizard. So do you know a kid you think has what it takes? Sony is looking for a dark-haired Caucasian boy age 4 to 6 (sorry Donald Glover) for Spidey and a kid between 8 and 11 years old for Billy Connors. But before everyone loses their shit about a possible “Young Spider-Man” spinoff don’t count on it. These parts are most likely for small moments and since the “Spider-Man” films are PG-13 and pretty much marketed to young kids anyway, don’t count on seven-year-olds running around in spandex.

It’s been a while since we read the comics, but Billy was a cancer survivor and at one point was nearly killed by his father Curt Connors when his alter-ego The Lizard decided he wanted to hurt him.

Of course whether or not the film goes in this direction remains to be seen but it does point at some potentially interesting elements lined up for the next iteration of the franchise.

Would You Do…The New Spider-Man?

Our new favorite face, Andrew Garfield, continues to make the rounds promoting his flick Never Let Me Go, which also stars Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. Talk about awesome casting.

Here’s Andrew looking all kinds of yum (isn’t his hair the best in Hollywood now?) in London at the premiere of the film, which opened the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday. So what’s he saying about prepping for Spider-man? And did he really beat out Robert Pattinson for the role?

Rumor has it Andrew is working out hard with a trainer and has quit smoking so he can get in fighting shape to be the man in blue and red.

“It’s very daunting. I don’t take it lightly. I know it belongs to everyone, that role, so I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I honor it,” Garfield told the U.K. Press Association.

But did the role really belong to his good mate Rob?

That’s what some blogs have been speculating, but we’re told by a solid source R.Pattz was never in the running to play Spidey.

Rob in tight Spandex jumping from building to building never added up to us anyway.

We’re getting more and more excited to see Andrew as Peter Parker! The casting so far is on point with Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans joining. Don’t ya think? Or would you have rather seen Rob in this blockbuster?

Rhys Ifans to Play The Lizard

EXCLUSIVE

Rhys Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors, better known as The Lizard, in Marc Webb’s “Spider-Man,” TheWrap has learned.

There had been rumors across the blogosphere that Sony was thinking of bringing back Venom for the franchise reboot, but that character will not be featured in the movie, two individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.

Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker, while Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy, who rivals Mary Jane Watson for Spidey’s affection.

Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are producing the movie, which begins production in December.

“Spider-Man” will hit theaters in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Rhys Ifans To Play “Spider-Man” Villain

BREAKING: Sony Pictures Entertainment has offered the villain role in the Spider-Man reboot to Rhys Ifans. Studio insiders wouldn’t say which villain he’s playing, and there’s been speculation about a bunch of baddies. He’s the next piece in the puzzle after SPE hired Marc Webb to direct, Andrew Garfield to play the wall crawler and Emma Stone to play his first love Gwen Stacy.

The Goblin had been involved in the Gwen Stacy storyline from the comics, but there have also been rumors that Spidey will battle Venom. Will tell you when I know for sure.

The Social Network tops box office for 2nd week

$15.9 mil ‘Social’ No. 1 for 2nd straight weekend
‘Life,’ ‘Secretariat’ debut strong, ‘Soul’ starts soft at No. 5

The Facebook drama “The Social Network” continues to add more friends at the box office as the Sony picture took in another $15.9, according to Rentrak, to top the weekend for a second straight week.

Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel’s romantic comedy “Life as We Know It” debuted with a $14.6-million weekend to take the No. 2 spot.

Coming in third place, Disney’s horse-racing drama “Secretariat” made a comfortable debut with $12.6 million.

“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” added another $7 million to its nest egg to take the fourth spot.

Rounding out the top five with a relatively soft debut and $7 million was Wes Craven’s “My Soul to Take.”

Andrew Garfield: our No 1 hottest young British movie talent

Andrew Garfield: our No 1 hottest young British movie talent
With roles in The Social Network and Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield’s sense of ambition is finally being rewarded

Credits: Won the 2007 Best TV Actor Bafta for Boy A. Film work includes a major role in The Social Network, Never Let Me Go and the forthcoming Spider-Man reboot.

“Until I was about 17, I didn’t quite realise what a major part of my psyche and my soul the American films I was raised on were,” says Andrew Garfield. “Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Princess Bride – those are the films that led me to want to be an actor.” Now he has his chance to stake his own claim on the psyches and souls of a new generation of teenage moviegoers, taking the title role in next year’s Spider-Man reboot.

Taking on one of cinema’s most high-profile roles might be a daunting prospect, but his has not quite been a rise from nowhere: 2010 has already been a stellar year for Garfield, whose star has gone supernova with a series of roles that must leave well-established British TV peers like John Simm, David Tennant and Ben Whishaw cursing the scrawny twentysomething.

Early Oscar Watch for Andrew

Oscar hype has definitely been heating up since our last round of predictions for next year’s nominees. These days, a big box-office flick can’t come out without at least a passing mention of being awards fodder—last week’s The Social Network, for ince.

And yes, we do think at least one of the Harvard gents will get recognized, but the big Q is which one: Jesse EisenbergAndrew Garfield or Justin Timberlake? Plus, we’ve made more picks for film’s biggest honors:

Andrew Garfield for Best Supporting Actor: While we think Jesse definitely deserves a shot at Best Actor, we’re putting our money on Andrew to score a spot in the supporting actor race. And just fyi, J.T. was fine, but definitely doesn’t deserve Oscar-praise…not by a long shot.

If we could “Like” a performance from the flick, it would be A.G.’s portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg‘s BFF turned Facebook cocreator turned PO’ed frenemy, Eduardo Saverin. Our status would read something along the lines of: “Holy future Spider-man, Andrew Garfield has more acting chops in those puppy-dog eyes than half the kids in Young Hollywood do in their whole bodies combined.”

Plus, with Never Let Me Go already generating mentions of little gold man glory—including for A’s darling costars, Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan—the dude will be on the Oscar voters’ minds.
