Young Spider-Man?

As “Spider-Man” moves forward to begin shooting in December, pieces are slowly being put in place.Emma Stone and Rhys Ifansrecently came on board playing Gwen Stacy and The Lizard respectively. They join Andrew Garfield in a reboot of Sony’s lucrative franchise. But word has arrived of a couple more intriguing parts to be filled.

Moviehole reports that casting is out for young versions of Peter Parker and his nemesis in the film, The Lizard. So do you know a kid you think has what it takes? Sony is looking for a dark-haired Caucasian boy age 4 to 6 (sorry Donald Glover) for Spidey and a kid between 8 and 11 years old for Billy Connors. But before everyone loses their shit about a possible “Young Spider-Man” spinoff don’t count on it. These parts are most likely for small moments and since the “Spider-Man” films are PG-13 and pretty much marketed to young kids anyway, don’t count on seven-year-olds running around in spandex.

It’s been a while since we read the comics, but Billy was a cancer survivor and at one point was nearly killed by his father Curt Connors when his alter-ego The Lizard decided he wanted to hurt him.

Of course whether or not the film goes in this direction remains to be seen but it does point at some potentially interesting elements lined up for the next iteration of the franchise.

Would You Do…The New Spider-Man?

Our new favorite face, Andrew Garfield, continues to make the rounds promoting his flick Never Let Me Go, which also stars Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. Talk about awesome casting.

Here’s Andrew looking all kinds of yum (isn’t his hair the best in Hollywood now?) in London at the premiere of the film, which opened the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday. So what’s he saying about prepping for Spider-man? And did he really beat out Robert Pattinson for the role?

Rumor has it Andrew is working out hard with a trainer and has quit smoking so he can get in fighting shape to be the man in blue and red.

“It’s very daunting. I don’t take it lightly. I know it belongs to everyone, that role, so I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I honor it,” Garfield told the U.K. Press Association.

But did the role really belong to his good mate Rob?

That’s what some blogs have been speculating, but we’re told by a solid source R.Pattz was never in the running to play Spidey.

Rob in tight Spandex jumping from building to building never added up to us anyway.

We’re getting more and more excited to see Andrew as Peter Parker! The casting so far is on point with Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans joining. Don’t ya think? Or would you have rather seen Rob in this blockbuster?

Rhys Ifans to Play The Lizard

EXCLUSIVE

Rhys Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors, better known as The Lizard, in Marc Webb’s “Spider-Man,” TheWrap has learned.

There had been rumors across the blogosphere that Sony was thinking of bringing back Venom for the franchise reboot, but that character will not be featured in the movie, two individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.

Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker, while Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy, who rivals Mary Jane Watson for Spidey’s affection.

Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin are producing the movie, which begins production in December.

“Spider-Man” will hit theaters in 3D on July 3, 2012.
